JAY-Z & Kanye West - Watch The Throne

The packaging for “Watch the Throne” is high-end art created by acclaimed designer Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy. The softpack, when opened up, turns into a cross-like shape printed on gold mylar with Tisci’s patterns embossed throughout. The package also includes an 18-panel poster that features Tisci’s artwork as well as lyrics to the entire album. The CD is a special edition black colored disc which is not standard with normal packaging. In tune with his codes for Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci created an artwork that channels most of his aesthetics: symmetry, lightness, darkness, sharpness and 3D. The all gold outer packaging reflects the luxurious themes and sounds of the album, described by JAY Z as "castle music". However, the use of black and twisted imagery in the inner packaging represents the darker themes of the album.

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die

The packaging for Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die" is a gatefold paperboard digipak and contains a disc and lyrics booklet. The artwork of the album takes a minimal direction with a off-white colour scheme. The front artwork features a mid shot of Del Rey with her name and the album title. The back cover is very minimal, only featuring the album track list, label logos and legal statements. The disc design follows the minimalistic approach with a hard white print and 3 roses on the edge of the disc which also fits the romantic themes of the album. The booklet inside the album's packaging features the lyrics of the the album printed on an off white background with ink splatters in gold and blood splatters. A PDF version of the lyrics booklet came with the iTunes version of the album.

2 Chainz - BOATS II: Me Time

For his second album titled "B.O.A.T.S II", 2 Chainz and DONDA Design Agency used a trifold digipak. All 3 panels on the outer packaging are the same image of 2 horizontal cuban link chains intended to open up and have the look of 2 chains hanging, this is an obvious nod to the artist's name. The interior packaging follows the idea of forming one image and each panel, together, forms an close up of 2 Chainz's hands with particular attention to the details of the jewellery he is wearing which emphasis his wealth, a strong theme throughout the album. The album contains a lyrics booklet which also feature various imagery of 2 Chainz, an eagle (or a bird, which is a common metaphor for cocaine in hip hop) and a clock which indicates me o'clock which goes with the sub title of the album "Me Time".
